Magical World of Alyssa San Diego.
HEAL AT UF
Welcome to the magical world of Alyssa San Diego's Blog. Read on to see why Disney is near and dear to her heart:
"By now most people who know me know that Disney, especially Disney World, means a lot to me. I mean all of us pretty much grew up watching those 90s classics like The Lion King, Mulan, and Beauty and the Beast. But by living in the Orlando area, and having family and friends that also loved Disney, I’ve been lucky enough to have been able to go to Disney World several times over the years. You might know it as “The Happiest Place on Earth,” although that’s actually trademarked to Disneyland in California (Magic Kingdom is the “Most Magical Place on Earth”). Either way it’s certainly one of my happiest places, where I’ve made some amazing memories.
So you can imagine my absolute joy when I got hired over the Summer to work there as a Photopass Photographer. If you’ve gone to the parks, you’ve probably seen us all over the place. We’re the people who take your picture in front of Cinderella’s Castle, for example, (or in my case in front of the Sorcerer's Hat at Hollywood Studios) or when you meet the boss, Mickey Mouse himself. I have to admit that I loved pretty much every second of working there. Working at Disney World is an amazing experience, even besides awesome perks like free admission and discounts on merchandise. I’ve gotten the chance to meet people from all over the US and the world. I’ve met people from dozens of countries that include Japan, Pakistan, India, England, and Canada. I’ve also gotten the chance to work with some incredible people who love Disney and what it stands for. And to top it all off, at the end of the day we’re literally paid to create happiness, or as Disney says, “make memories that last a lifetime.”
You might be a little skeptical of that statement, thinking “how can you create happiness at a theme park?” Well you probably haven't seen the huge smile on a little girl's face after I called them a princess, the grin when I tell people to have a "magical day," or the gratitude of the mother when I offer to take a picture of the entire family for her. You haven’t seen the grandmother doting on Minnie Mouse, the father laughing alongside Donald Duck, or the kid who kissed Goofy on the nose. You haven’t witnessed the absolute awe in a child’s eyes as they meet their favorite princess or their raw delight when we give them something as simple as a sticker. And I'm the lucky person who gets to capture some of these fantastic moments into a photo that they'll get to keep for the rest of their lives. Disney World isn’t just any theme park after all, it’s a place where dreams come true. And I get to see it happen everyday.
I could talk about my experiences working at Disney World, or just Disney in general, for the longest time. But to sort of wrap it up I’ll quote some words that were written by another cast member on what it’s like to work at Disney World:
“Working at Disney is magic. It’s literally magic.
It’s watching kid’s eyes light up when they see Mickey for the first time.
It’s older Guests smiling, shedding years off their face and exposing the young at heart within.
It’s couples walking slowly, their hands intertwined.
It’s Tinkerbell flying during Wishes.
It’s little moments. It’s the simple gestures.
It’s Mickey gloves, pin trading, Disney pointing, and name tags.
It’s wishing people a magical morning/afternoon/evening.
It’s telling others that it’s ok to believe.
It’s believing yourself.”
Thanks for taking the time to read my long sappy blog. Hopefully it's given you some insight into why I like Disney so much. If you ever happen to go to Disney World be sure to pay me a visit! Oh and here are a couple of pictures of me doing what I do. Thanks to my friend Kim for visiting me at work and getting these shots!
Have a magical day everyone!"
