My Love For The Jacksonville Jaguars
HEAL AT UF
A blog from the awe-inspiring Jan Dela Cruz. (Has anyone tried to NOT read it in his voice?#yourvoiceresonatesinmyhead) Anyways, as always enjoy everybody.
"For my officer blog, I wanted to explain something that comes up a lot in my teaching segments, and could use a little explanation. As you may already know, I’m a huge fan of the Jacksonville Jaguars. The biggest question I get asked is why would anyone in their right mind do so. I was hoping to explain it a little bit while I was lucky enough to participate in this year’s pageant, but because of time I had to trim it a little bit. What follows is what I wanted to share.
A lot of people ask me why I care so much about my Jags, and to be honest it’s pretty clear that it’s not because they’re any good. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. The Jaguars, for most of my life, have been absolutely terrible. Everyone makes fun of them, everyone believes they’re either never going to the playoffs, or even moving to another city, maybe even London. And that’s why I love them. In middle and high school, most Mondays I would have to defend my Jaguars, explaining why it is they lost, and why they’re going to get better, and I would just urge people to keep believing that one day things will turn around. You see, it’s not a secret that there aren’t that many Jags fans. But ever since I was little, for some reason I believed that if I had faith in them, if I believed what others thought was impossible, then one day I’ll get to turn to everyone who didn’t believe, and just smile. I didn’t realize it at the time, but in a way the Jaguars are kind of a parallel to myself. I never had the highest grades, or was the tallest, or was the most athletic. After a while though, I began to realize that none of that is important, what counts is that if you just believe, no matter what everyone says, and no matter what life throws at you, you’re going to be make it. There are going to be tough weeks, (or if you’re the Jags, tough decades) but despite what the naysayers believe, as long as you just keep your head up, and just keep pushing, everything will soon fall in to place.
Now of course I hope that one day the Jags will eventually be good, but in the meantime now would be a good time to hop on the bandwagon (which has LOTS of room) as they continue to build for the future. And if anything, they make for great stories.#teachingsegmentsarelife
